Ready to make some magic? Let’s get started!

10 Tips For Blinging Your Vinyl
Here are my 10 must-know tips for adding rhinestones to vinyl:
- Match Your Vinyl Color to Your Rhinestones: Whenever possible, use the same color of vinyl as the rhinestone to create a cohesive look.
- Always Use a Precision Glue Bottle: Regular glue bottles release too much glue, which can ruin your project.
- Unclogging the Glue Tip: If your precision glue bottle gets clogged, use a pin or needle to clear the tip.
- Work in Small Sections: This prevents the glue from drying before you’ve placed your rhinestones.
- A Thin Layer of Glue is Key: A little goes a long way and helps maintain a clean look.
- Don’t Be Overly Fussy: When working on intricate designs, flaws can seem magnified. Walk away, let the glue dry, and return with fresh eyes.
- Use the Metal End of the Dotting Pen: This is great for pushing any rhinestones that shift out of place back into line.
- Take Eye Breaks: Protect your vision with frequent breaks. And most importantly—have fun!
- Pre-Plan Your Rhinestone Layout: Before applying glue, lay out your rhinestones on the design to visualize the final look.
- Clean Tools Regularly: Sticky glue residue can build up, so clean your dotting pen and precision bottle often.
And above all else– Have fun!!!

Step-by-Step Tutorial: How To Make DIY Rhinestone Cards With Cricut

Step 1: Design Your Card
Open Cricut Design Space and add the image you want to use to your canvas. If you’d like to recreate my “Sending All My Love” and hanging hearts card designs, you can find the design already laid out here.
Step 2: Measure and Resize
Measure your card and resize the design accordingly. I used a Cricut Insert Card Kit, but you can also have your Cricut cut a card for you using cardstock and a scoring stylus or scoring wheel. DIYing the card yourself also let’s you play with the card shape to make it completely unique to you.

Step 3: Cut the Vinyl
Click “Make It” and follow the prompts on your screen to select your cutting material and send the project to your Cricut machine. Load each color of vinyl onto the mat, and let the magic begin!

Step 4: Weed the Vinyl
Use weeding tools to carefully remove the excess vinyl, leaving only the design on the vinyl backing.

Step 5: Transfer the Design
Cut a piece of transfer tape slightly larger than your design. Remove the paper backing and lay the transfer tape on top of the vinyl. Use a scraper tool to burnish both the front and back, ensuring the vinyl sticks to the transfer tape. Slowly peel the transfer tape, place your design on the card, and burnish it again before removing the transfer tape. Repeat for all vinyl pieces.

Step 6: Add Rhinestones
Fill your precision glue bottle with Gem-Tac. Apply a thin layer of glue to a small section of your vinyl to prevent drying before you place the rhinestones. Use the rhinestone dotting pen to transfer the gems, color side facing up, onto the glue one by one.

Step 7: Let It Dry
Leave your card to dry for at least 2 hours. Once it’s ready, you can send it off as the ultimate happy mail!
